In the upcoming seminar meeting we will discuss Lenin's concept of the Dictatorship of the Proletariat which has at stake the very question of a violent destruction of the State Apparatus and the simultaneous demand of strengthening the democratic mass organisations, a demand that shall allow the withering away and the final abolition of the socialist state. We are reading Balibar's strictly Leninist essay on this question from 1976, Ruth Fischer's critique of Leninism from 1945 dealing with the authoritarian destruction of the council movements and the democratic mass organisations by the party and the army in Russia after 1917, and Negri's critical Text to Lenin who points out that Lenin has read the concept of constituent power in Jacobinist terms, restrictively attributing its practices to the party.
For those who would like to intensify the debate I advise to read the last chapter in Nicos Poulantzas' book "State, Power and Socialism" from 1978 and the essay "The Russian Revolution" from Rosa Luxemburg from 1918.
